The Night We Prayed for a Stranger in the ER

Three of us from our chapter ended up in the ER on a Thursday night with a friend who had a bad allergic reaction — she was fine, but it was scary for a while. While we were in the waiting room, we noticed a man sitting alone across from us. He'd been there when we arrived and he was still there two hours later, just staring at the floor. No phone. No one with him. Something pulled at me. I leaned over to my friends and said "can we pray for him?" They both said yes immediately. We walked over and asked if we could sit with him. His name was Robert. His wife was in surgery. He hadn't eaten since breakfast. We got him a sandwich from the vending machine and sat with him until his daughter arrived around midnight. We prayed with him quietly before we left. He cried. We cried. I don't know what happened to Robert's wife. But I know God put us in that waiting room on purpose. Ministry doesn't always look like a stage and a microphone. Sometimes it looks like a vending machine sandwich at 11pm.
